What I’m Changing in 2024

It’s that time of the year! Where it’s out with the old, and in with the new. (Isn’t that what they say??)

This year, it’s all about relaxing and bringing back the joy of reading.

Here are some new reading habits I’ll be applying in 2024!

DNF is Priority.

Just DNF!

What is a DNF?

  • Didn’t Like
  • Couldn’t Get Into
  • Find Yourself Skimming
  • Eyes Glazing Over

Life is too short, and there are way too many books to be stuck reading something you’re not into. While it is hard to put some of the stories down and you may find yourself struggling with the concept at first, do yourself a favor, and move onto something new!

You’ll find yourself hitting less slumps and with a larger pile of great books to recommend by the time December rolls around.

Just because your bookish bestie loved a book does NOT mean you should ‘love‘ it too if it’s just not hitting that sweet spot. We are all different people, which means we all vibe towards different reading tastes.

Entering My Kindle Era.

I’ve always been a physical bookish girl, through and through. You take me to any bookstore and I am salivating for all the books waiting for me to buy, especially a goof fantasy mass market paperback.

But, over the last year or so, I’ve noticed a big change in my reading habits. Between working night shift and spending days off just lounging, I’ve slowly gravitated towards picking up my Kindle verse the physical copies.

I’ll go through the MANY, MANY reasons why reading on an eReader has become my go-to in a later post, but I will say, it’s been the format for 90% of my reading. (Well, besides the 10 Malazan mass markets I’ve already acquired last year)

Mood Reading, No Pressure.

While having a solid TBR can be a good thing for many readers, I’m taking the relaxed approach this year by having a very loosely woven list of books I’d like to accomplish.

I still have high hopes for series such as rereading all the Sarah J Maas books and being almost halfway through the ‘Malazan Book of the Fallen’ tomes, but I won’t be putting a time frame on completing them.

If I want to read, I’ll read. If I want to sit on the couch and play ‘Hogwarts Legacy,’ you’ll find me gaming instead of pressuring myself to read ALL THE TIME. Sometimes in the past, I’d find myself constantly anxious with moving onto the next book, and the next book, and the next book. Creating a spiral of book after book instead of just slowing down, and truly enjoying what I’m reading.

Instant Mini Reviews on Goodreads.

Something I’ve started doing once I’ve finished a book, is to post my fresh, initial thoughts on Goodreads.

These won’t be full, in-depth reviews, but instead are just lil’ mini ones to hold over until I can sit down and write my official ones for you all here! They may be a few words to just a couple sentences, and are all NON SPOILER. Because I’m a firm believer of not spoiling anything for a fellow reader (unlike SJM’s publisher..)
